Every once in a while both of my doors will be closed. The interior lights stay on and i get the dinging like a door is open when they are both infact closed. I know that it is the driver side that is messed up. I am wondering how to fix the problem or when i can buy a new one. But it only happens sometimes.

Shoot some wd-40 or any other lubricant spray into the latch on the door.. This will fix it. Its a common occurence on ranger doors.

Had the same problem. You're correct it's the driver's door switch. Plunger on the switch get's sticky with dirt and oil. Spraying the switch may work in the short term, but will eventually fail. Allow's more dirt to tack up the switch. You can purchase the switch at any name brand part's store. Got mine at O'Rielly's, cost about 9 buck's (might have been 19 LOL. Can't remember) but wasn't too expensive. Kinda hard to get to inside the door, but doable. Might as well change both of'em. Passenger will fail before too long. Whole lot cheaper than driving at night with the light on, getting pissed cuz ya can't see well, so ya punch the whole light assembly off the ceiling! Don't ask how I know this.

The roller that rolls against the switch has a flat spot on it. Yesterday it gave me alot of problems. I turned the roller with my finger, closed the door and had no more problems. I did that twice and it fixed the problem both times.

This might sound stupid, but where is the switch at? I have a 1998 Ranger that has this problem... and I can't find any normal plunger style switch on the doors. Is it built into the hinges somehow? Thanks for the help guys...

It's in the door latch....WD-40 cured mine for at least a year.....no problems since.
