I hate the way the domelight comes on when you pull up on the doorhandle.Mainly because if anyone walked up and pulled up on the handle they can see everything in my truck.Does anyone kno if i unplugged the switch that hooks to the handle latch, would it interfere with the power locks?i realize ill prolly lose my dead battery warning for the headlights but ill give that up.Input is appreciated

it tunrs on when u do that?? didnt knew that, try removing the fuse for the dome light instead.
or try what u said, i dont think it would interfere with your power locks

sooo...your saying you dont lock your truck?

dome only turns on when either the dimmer switch is rolled up or if a door is opened.

remove the dome bulb?

sorry i didnt really explain wht i really meant.when the truck is locked and u pull up on the handle the lights come on.(people can see the stuff i keep behind the seat).i want to have a working dome light but dont really care for it comin on when i open the door.i found the wire runnin to the handle today but gotta figure out to get it off cuz i cant see it and find out wht happens after i unplug it

thats weird that it does that. never heard of a dome light doing that

I had a '95 that did that.
I liked it and the wife liked it because she could turn on the interior lights before unlocking the door.

Take the door apart, disconnect the wires and try it out for a day or two seeing how things work or don't work; then you will know.

lol ive had a few rangers and every one ive had, i had to take the bulb out cuz the domelight switch is bad and they would always go on and off when i hit bumps.

the switch is built into the handle catch...not into the door frame pillar.

it is sticking AND your handle catch is worn as well. The only thing I know of on how to fix this (as I dont know where to get the little switches aside from a junkyard) is to pull off the door panel and pull out the latch catch assembly.

you'll see two sensor switches. they are both passive resistance type (a spring loaded deal where the plastic piece rides along the "cam" which presses the piece in until the metal on the backside contacts the bottom ram and completes the circuit...or, once the spring is extended due to the plastic being pushed out and then contacting the other metal end).

it seems like yours is probably sticking and contacting too soon as the only time it should contact is with the door open meaning the latch itself is fully extended (as its not gripped around the latch knob) and is contacting.

pull door panel off, remove latch assembly, find both sensors (door buzzer, dome light), play with said sensors to understand better after removing from latch assembly and playing with them while hooked to harness.

then and only then, lube them up. now you fully understand why it was doing what it was doing. I personally have to pull mine apart and replace the switches as I know they are sticking...yet again...and I'd rather just source a few from the u-pull five finger discount program and replace them with free moving ones...

where's my mimosa

had time to get into door handle today.looked in my lmc truck book and found what the switch looked like.unplugged it and all it cut off was stuck that happens when you open the door, light, dinger, etc.thanks guys

My 96 Exploder does that to I always thought it was I convenience thing. That way you could have some light to see your keys in the dark? But it's definitely supposed to do it. It's done it since I got it w/ 40,000 miles on it.

And I've also never liked how you cant turn off the dome light when the doors open. I've always thought of wiring in a switch on the dash to control the power going to the dome light. Has any one done this? I wonder how hard DOT would be? I don't see it being that bad, maybe I'll try it when it's not 15 degrees outside.

I did that on my '94 Super Cab Ranger. The right domelight wire to run through a kill switch is high in the driver's kick panel, and goes up the A pillar. A real pain in the ass to get to, but it is nice to have a domelight kill.

lol My dome light is always on unless I put the switch "between clicks". Once every year or so it will function correctly but only for a short time. Not a huge issue I guess but slightly annoying.
