I am gonna do a gear swap from 3.73 to 4.88 and adding a loc rite to my D35 and am wondering if necessary can I put the outer axles in and run it without the carrier or is removing the carrier taking away to much of the structer of the beam?

You mean pull the carrier and reinstall the pig without it and still drive it? I'd take the whole pig and axle shafts out too and drive it like that. I don't imagine normal driving without a pig would be bad for it.

I drove without axles and pig for 2 weeks with no problems.

As long as you leave the pinch bolt tightened down you should be able to drive with no 3rd member or shafts just fine.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure I'm gonna need to but if I run into a issue I wanna make sure I can still drive it while I get parts. I thought however that I'd need to re-install the outer yokes so the hub assembly was sealed up

You can just stuff a rag into the hub to keep dirt out. Even if you got stuff in the hub, they're easily cleanable with some brake parts cleaner.
