I have the rugged ridge/avm 470 and I really hate how they stay on. That design was terrible by ford. My plastic tabs are all screwed up so it's easy to pull off.. Too easy. Can I switch to tophat style hubs?

Or should I just get a dana 30 or 44? :D

No other manual hub option is available.

Convert it to Live Axle using knuckles from a 2000/later model (has unit bearings) and CV shafts.

I believe Explorer knuckles and shafts will retrofit if you can't find Ranger parts. I recall my 99 Explorer's looked exactly the same as my 2000 Ranger's.

Is that a direct bolt on earl?
How do identify between the two axles?
And is there anyway I can modify these to stay on better in the meantime?

If you still have your old ones, do this:

or this:

"Manual conversion. Its really simple as you already got the cap off, just clip off the pin wheel inside the thing and punch out the screen, and smooth the edges to your liking so you have a nice hole in the center of your cap. Put it back on and just insert your finger push all the way down to lock them in and about half way in to unlock the hubs."

Smart idea on the electrical tape.. Electrical seems best since it's kinda rubbery and stretchy. Tighter grip, plus it looks better. And I'll have to give that a try with the autos. Make them be good backups
