I've starting looking at some accessories lately for my new truck. Does anyone here have a Westin Bull Bar installed on their Ranger? If so, or if you just know a lot about them, I was wondering if they add any actual physical protection to the front end of the truck, or are they more just cosmetic? I don't expect to ram other people with my truck or anything, but I'm just wondering if I were in an accident or something, would it help protect the front end, or will it just fold up like an aluminum can?

Also, if you have one installed, could you post a pic of it?

I used to have the older one on my 01' Escape. It is easy to install (factory holes) and did protect the front bumper from most minor bumps. City parking made me feel much more at ease, and remember those big honking bumpers on the first Escape...they needed protecting!

If you go to the Westin site they have a few shots of newer rangers with the guard installed. I can't seem to find one for my 93' so if anyone knows of one for my vintage please speak up!

Good luck with it!

Thanks for that input. I'll go check out Westin's site. I've just been looking at them on eBay and other 3rd party sites.

if you go offroading much, you'll wanna throw it away after the first time out. it will get you hung up on something and get bent to hell.

I've got a brush guard on my truck that is westin or somethin similar, not sure if its what you are talking about...the brackets aren't super heavy duty, so it wouldn't do a ton in a big collision, but for minor dings and bumps it holds up just fine.:icon_thumby:

Thanks for that info. I don't plan on doing any true off roading with my truck. I'm thinking about getting the bull bar for looks and for whatever possible protection it would provide my truck should I bump something from behind or whatever.

Then it is perfect for you.

I love the look of the bar and the fact that it will hold 4 lights (with a homemade adapter) rather than drilling into my bumper is a huge plus.

Good luck!
