A couple years ago Wix sold out to Mann and Hummel which is why the store brand filters now say Mann and Hummel instead of Wix like they used to, same for AC Delco. The problem at work is for the last 20+ years we've been using the same "corvette" fuel filter/regulator assembly because it spits out the right pressure that we need and is compact and simple, Wix made a nice reliable unit, it was discontinued and now the store brands and even AC Delco are made by Luberfiner (I'm pretty sure they're a fine company, but this filter is sub par) and it's like 50% more expensive and designed way worse... you could feed the Wix unit with any pump you wanted and it would give good pressure, the new one has a 1/8" return port so instead of 58psi with a big pump it will spit out 80psi...
I'm not too picky on oil filters, most of what I drive isn't known for having oil pressure or bearing problems...
Oil filters and fuel filters are critical.
I just been through the Corvette filter insanity....had all sorts of running issues at idle and now suspect I janked up some injectors....my rail psi sensor peaks out at 105 psi. (When I finally looked at it)...it was not on the normal data screen, but is now.. anyway, I figured it had failed and unplugged it....I don't have the normal Schrader valve anymore since we had to upgrade the lines so went to my AN rails and fi tech intake....dialing it in was a beeeeotch.....so I popped my other psi sensor on from the oil....and bam...105....

.... This was a pisser...I ran down the return looking for a kink...and checked flow and moused it...then swapped filters.... twice... Studying the filters I realized how old my originals were...they were from GM and not cheap either....like 48 bux. They were from way back on some swaps I worked on years ago. And they worked fine..... After investigation....I realized that 300 lph walbro was never going to get along with these very convenient newer build paperweights. So I made a cap for the return and installed a FASS regulator which eventually would happen no matter what ... And now I have both digital and mechanical fuel psi gauges full time.
I also suspect it may have factored into my fuel line issues. But that is in tolerance.....ON THE PSI SIDE.
I really fawked up....the return side I cheaped out on....had it delaminated or got pinched would have been exposed to that irregular pressure and been a potential disaster. The return side in this application...like a Corvette has to run a siphon pump to balance the saddle tanks. This was done due to time constraints and to POC the machine for next phases ECT....
Don't do what my dumb ass did.
Now....
fighting pressure plate balance issues like a mofo. Very disappointed....I spent some decent money on a pressure plate that is causing a harmonic vibration. I use a custom six puck ceramic...because I adapted the nissan cd00x trans so I could use the automatic factory drivelines which are cheap and available and hold 10 second power easily. That ...and price a t56...
The quality at any price is abysmal .
There was a time I could take 2 or 3 clutches to the clutch shop here in Detroit and rehub/spline it to my desire with it in neutral balance for my application ..... Not any more.
