Do you think that the 11 escape is worth $4000

Son rolled the 05 mariner (he's OK) while trying to avoid an accident. That was a month ago. So got check from insurance and picked up the 11 escape for $4000 yesterday.

It is 1owner with records of all that he has had done to it has the 3 liter v6 and 185k miles but all fluids are very clean and it runs great. Books for about 6500 private party.

What do you think

As long as it was well maintained, it seems like a good choice to me.

I'd say its worth $4k.

The Escape is a surprisingly capable vehicle. A few years ago,( before the EB was available) we took a hybrid escape from Florida to North Carolina and had zero issues with space and comfort. 2 adults a 10 yo and a toddler in a car seat, and only spent about $60 in gas the while trip.

Seems like a fair price...

In my experience... the mileage it has is about the point where a trouble free vehicle starts to require some repairs. Our 11 Edge hit 190K trouble free... then the brake booster went south... wheel bearings... alternator and the latest was the radiator. We upgraded to a 17 Escape and put our daughter in the Edge... within a week the exhaust let go. You just have to understand that it will probably need some fixing as the mileage grows.

Glad your son is ok...

My wifes got a 2010 escape. Other then body rust its been pretty trouble free. Averages 28-30mpg to (2.5/2wd).

I was going through the records that he gave us and he still has the original dealer window sticker in the file.
Oil changes have been done regularly. Record's for those as well oil is very clean and according to the oil reminder light it had about 50% life left. Changed it anyway as well as trans fluid. To do's are replace tstat flush cooling system, belts and hoses, spark plugs and valve cover gaskets.

I consider all of the above as maintenance items

Save up to replace that transmission if it hasn't been done yet.

If it was a CD4E I'd say yes. The V6 version of the 6F trans is pretty hardy, except for the one case bushing where the DS axle goes in, although the 4-cyl version sure had some issues at roll-out. Although, at 200K miles the frictions may be getting worn down.

Its never a bad idea to have money saved for a major repair, but if it isn't having any issues right now I don't think I'd be too worried about it in the short term.

At that age half of what you're buying are the prior owners maintenance habits and it sounds like he did a good job with it. We had a V6 AWD 11 Escape with a 3.0 that consistently got 26-28 mpg on my wife's commute, the 2016 2.0EcoBoost does even better. I saw many customers with high mile Escapes that gave them good service if they took care of them. Any vehicle nearing 200k is going to need some repairs but I wouldn't be afraid of it. One of my former fleet customers would count on 250,000 miles from every vehicle they bought, and they'd get it because they maintained them.

I do certain things just because I am there like the valve cover gaskets when I do the spark plugs as I have to pull the plenum to do either one. I would rather pull it once?not twice.
It is the 6f trans and I have already changed fluid. There are currently no oil leaks or any other leaks that I can see. So @ this point only time will tell if it is a good buy....

When it got over 200k my wife's Edge started getting into weird crap.

Press together POS front wheel bearing. Evap canister purge valve (special order from factory at all parts stores in town after I looked up the number because nobody could even find it) and now it is the PS strut bearing. In truck land we call that a balljoint but we don't have to compress a strut to change a balljoint.

I really wish she would get a truck for her next vehicle, I hate working on this cheesy car crap.
