after my grandfather passed last march we were going through his stuff and i found these two bayonets. the markings on them are identical but i have no idea where they're from. if anyone has a clue i'd like to know. i also have a shotgun that my great great grandfather used in ww1. he passed it down to my dads uncle. then my dad got it from his uncle and now its mine. ill post pics of it tomorrow

They are British enfield bayonets, most likely from WW1, as later model enfields started using the cheaper and easier to manufacture spike bayonets. However, many were used in WW2, and were probably still being manufactured. The Brits needed all the weapons they could get.

EDIT: Now that I look at the markings, the "42" could possibly be the date of manufacture...with the "3" being a possible, but somewhat far fetched (not the same size numbers) month of manufacture. So it could very well be a WW2 bayonet.

That reminds me....

Its not mine, but will be one day. Hopefully far in the future.

My grandfather has one of the original .22 cal bolt action Springfield rifles. The serial number is only 3 digits long, and the first one is a 0.

How are those Mausers? I can never bring myself to buy one because it's such a wierd caliber.

exactly, but it was still a horrible feeling when it broke knowing that my great g-pa used it defending this country and i broke it tryin to make some extra cash.

Son, two things made this country great. Brave men who fought for our freedoms and industrious, hard working people who did what they could to make a buck.

That knife saw it's prime in the hands of one and met it's retirement in the hands of another. There is no shame in using the tools at your disposal to pay the bills any way you can.

The action is a work of art, most modern bolt action rifles are based on them.

I have original news papers from the titanic sinking, JFK assassination, DB Cooper, Nixon resigning, Americas 200th bday, a 22 from 1889, another 22 from 1902, an Arisaka Rifle and bayonet from WW2, a Sword from Spain with a Solid Gold Handle, and i think thats it.

I guess it depends on what you want out of it.

They are amazing rifles. With performance just short of a 30/06, the 8mm is plenty rifle for hunting, and very accurate. Just about every model of Mauser is overbuilt and rugged. They can still be had for cheap, unless they're German. However, shooting a mauser regularly will make you bankrupt if you buy commercial ammo. However, military surplus is plentiful, and very cheap....just make damn sure you clean your gun very good because it's almost all corrosive.

I own 4 different models of Mausers, shoot mine regularly, have stockpiles of surplus ammo for them, and never would consider getting rid of them. You won't ever regret buying one.:icon_thumby:

My dad used to own a old Winchester rifle that he sold for about $50 when he got married cause he needed money. He said now it would be worth around 20 grand or so. Only other cool thing I have is my complete family tree going back to the mid 1500s!

Great rifle, love to shoot it but as Duster says, over $40 for 20 rounds.
Deadly accurate.

I've always like the Case XXX knives. Great quality, but I've had to upgrade to something more practical. Cold Steel AK-47.
