Do you guys think I'll have a problem returning this at AutoZone?

I bought a lifetime alternator at AutoZone 4 years ago. At least that's what the lady (Norma) said when I called. She said to just go in and swap it out. Here's my problem:

I forgot that I did an engine swap between then and now and the alternator I just pulled says "MotorCraft" on it. The engine was swapped at a shop and I don't remember if this is the alternator that I bought or that came with the new engine.

If I tell them that's what I got 4 years ago from AutoZone will they still swap it out? Thanks.

Most of their alternators are reman units. I bought one there back in the day with motorcraft cast in the case. You shouldn't have too many problems.

allen,no way you should try pulling this off.at the very least it is dishonest.fwiw.

Normaly the goons behind the Counter at Autozone dont care, as long as your in there computer you should be good. Worst case they'll say no and your gonna have to buy a new one.

Its worth a shot.

What are you talking about!

I'm not trying to be dishonest here at all bro. I just don't remember if this is the one I bought or not. The girl at AutoZone told me I bought it back in 2004, so there's no way I can remember with my drug toasted brain you know?

The way I look at it is this: I paid extra money for the lifetime replacement part at the time and 4 years is definitely long enough.

Thanks guys, not so worried now.

allen, all i was saying is that if this isn't the unit you bought with the warranty and you can't remember.wth, try it.

I'm not trying to give you an attitude. If it sounded like it, I'm sorry.

It just sounded kind of like you were accusing me of trying to pull a fast one....lol. Take it easy.

allen,no sir,i am not accusing you of being dishonest.

you asked a question of us and i tried to give my view.it's out there now,and i believe you have a 50/50 chance of returning the exact part that you bought.

i appologize for offending you.

Well it turned out that was the AutoZone one, and it's swapped now but I still Have this wierd moaning sound from one of my pulleys or water pump. I've already replaced the power steering pump, belt tensioner pulley, and now the alternator. The A/C is not connected at this time.

The only other ones I have left are the water pump and the other pulley under the A/C. Could this be my water pump? It only does it at idle and not all the time.

Allen

i think what your talking about, is your idler pulley, they are just a guide. you can see which one it is by sticking a flat head screwdriver on the bolt going through the pulley and sticking your ear on the other end. almost like a stethiscope ( i have no idea how to spell)

I think you're right about it being called the idler pulley. That's the one!

I have a strange feeling it's the water pump though. It's not leaking or anything, but just making a moaning type sound, and only at idle sometimes but it can get loud. If I remove the serpentine belt and start the truck the sound is gone, so it has to be one of the serpentine's right?

The pulley I bought at AutoZone was listed as the idler pulley though, and it mounted perfectly on the belt tensioner. Are they the same size? If so then I'll just mount the old tensioner pulley on the idler pulley....haha

Then I'll know wether it's the water pump or idler you know? Do you know if the belt tensoner pulley and idler pulley are the same dimension? I guess I can go out and put the pulley up to the idler huh? Later and thanks.
