I have an 87' Ranger... i got a HID kit for Christmas, 8000K, Will i need to wire up a relay so i dont fry the wiring harness, or no relay at all?
Any Comments Would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You!

how does a HID kit work on a sealed beam headlamp system like the Gen I has?

It replaces the whole sealed beam unit with a new housing designed for an HID bulb.

As for the relay I'm not sure, someone else a little bit more versed in electrical should be able to help you out.

i believe the HID balast itself works as a relay, the oem wiring just activates the balasts. the bulbs are powered via a stronger wire coming out of the balasts.

as of using them on sealed beams, u need to convert to non sealed ones first. that is housings made to use disposable halogen bulbs

I think RSH is on the right path, im thinking the ballast takes care of the relay part of the equation.

i really think so, since all the HID installs ive seen, ive never seen a relay. all i see is the oem wiring activating the balasts and them balasts taking power directly from the battery and then to the bulbs. the oem connectors arent even used

the ballast is the relay. u will need the aftermarket "diamond" lenses that use the h4/9003 bulbs

just connect the balast to power. plug in the balast o the bulb and you have light. no relay needed
