So over the last 3 nights I've been building a bender going from a picture that I saw on the internet of one. Right now it has a pipe die modified to fit on it, but I would like to get a tube die or 2 for it as well. Mostly used for building body armor, bumpers, sliders, maybe even an exo cage in the works. Not looking to build any hardcore roll cages or anything with it.
It cost a grand total of $0 as between myself and a buddy we had everything to build it. The die, ram, roller and return springs are taken from a princess auto 12 ton pipe bender. The steel we had.
Even if i spend a couple hundred on some tube dies for it I figure I'm still ahead of the game.
We test bent a chunk of sched 40 pipe we had kicking around, it bent a very clean 90* with little flattening and no denting/kinking at all.
So far we're pretty happy with it, the test will be when we get around to building something with it. Need to pick up some paint and give it a coat or two as well still.
