Just finished replaceing the distributor cap and rotor to find the engine runs like a bag of crap.. then found out that i can turn the distributor by hand.. now i dont think that is good... and ideas why i can turn it by hand? and im sure i just ****ed up the timing.. is this an easy fix?

Thanks

Syko..

is your distributor hold down bolt missing or loose? if so, tighten/replace it.

afterwards, you need to set the timing. warm the engine up, then locate and disconnect the spout connector. set the timing to 10 degrees BTDC. reinstall the spout and tighten down the dizzy bolt.

sorry for being inexperienced.. ive never set the timing on an engine before.. seen it done so i kinda have an idea.. so i need to get a timing gun right? and spout connector where is this located?

thanks

syko

you will need a timing light.

the spout connector is a small grey or black plastic jumper. its located near the ignition module, which on the 2.9 i think is still attached to the distributor.

There is a picture of the Spout Connector in my thread "Mystery Wire/Plug (Help!)." I needed information on what it was and I basically just found out a minute ago ha, but, if you have trouble finding it just look up that picture.
