Trying to remove my distributor from my truck. Where is the bolt for the hold down clamp I think I saw it behind it between it and the firewall. Also do I need a special tool to get it out or does anyone have any tips. It seems like its in a tough spot and I don't know how to get at it.

There will be a plate holding the distributor down. There is a bolt thru the plate next to the distributor shaft. I don't know the bolt size, but if you can't get the bolt out with a wiggle socket, or wrench, you can get a distributor wrench from auto parts. It is basically a boxed end wrench with a large bend in it to clear the upper part of the distributor.

When removing the distributor, the rotor and distributor shaft will turn. Before turning/removing anything, mark the position of the rotor cap on the side of the distributor, and the positon of the distributor base on the block. If you don't, timing the thing when you put it back in will be a bitch if you don't align it properly.

I also mark the position of the rotor cap on the distributor just as it clears the camshaft gears and stops turning during removal. It makes it much easier and faster to re-install.:)shady
