Distributer Question - hope this isn't another stupid one

I have been doing duraspark conversions for over 20 years, I've never used a resistance wire to power them, I use a constant 12+ volt source, and have never had any problems, even my 88 2.3 has duraspark conversion without a resistance wire it works flawlessly, so it is the best, easiest, reliable, and if something where to happen any autoparts has the parts to fix it. Resistor wire is for points distributors so that they wouldn't constantly be burning the points up.

WOW! you've been doing them that long and still don't know shit about them.
The Duraspark system does use a resistance wire. Without it it will melt the potting out in a quick hurry. Sometimes it doesn't even get a chance to melt the potting before it fries the box.
Ok that might have been a little rude, sorry. If you use an internal resistance coil it won't fry the box.

You're the one that doens't know shit about them "mr thinks he know's it all", I have never had any problems with them melting the potting out of them, or burn up the box (or the associated components).

I have been doing it for well over 20 years as well. Would you like to see a picture? I just happen to have a failed attempt in my back yard right now. It is here for me to fix. The potting running down the inner fender.
I'm the first one to admit that I don't know it all, I have been around though. I've been into many different kinds of racing through the years and have seen things done wrong for years. My job is to fix other peoples screw ups.
Apperantly the world rotates a different dirrection where you live, The melt down problem has been the biggest problem with Duraspark since ford came out with them. That is why they don't have a very good rep.
I have 2 different vehicles running dura spark boxes that are older than the avarage TRS member! I'm not saying that they are a bad system.

:icon_rofl: this is starting to look like a thread on Pirate4x4.com! PUT THE GUNS DOWN! :icon_rofl:

Woohoo...Got the distributer, Duraspark box, coil and all pigtails for $20. Thanks again for the help.

Rick

P.S. Also got throttle cable bracket.

I've allways had good luck with the duraspark system, I set them up the same way every time, with no problems, so I guess your world spins backwards MP.

That very well could be.:icon_twisted: It doesn't explain why the Majority of people don't like the duraspark system though.:icon_confused:
Good luck with your duraspark Rancheroo.
