im thinking of getting a set for the blazr, but for the opposite reason one would normally buy them, the blazer has some aftermarket spoke wheels, very large openings between spokes (7 spoke wheel) and im wondering about road salt during the winter causing premature rotor problems. (corroision, pitting, stuff like that) ive got a set of stock blazer rims but just cant afford the 500 bucks for a new set of tires before winter. this vehicle has had these rims on it before and the rotors were absolutly trashed to the point of eating up a set of brake pads every 3,000 miles and having poor brake performance. put new rotors on this spring and have so far put 8,000 miles on with over 1/2 the pad life remaining, and the brakes work much better. granted i dont know how old the other rotors were or if being exposed to the winter salt through the large wheels spokes could have been a factor in "rotor lifespan". its about 30 bucks a set through autozone for these, just have to order them. has anyone used them notice any ill effects from doing so? i know they are mainly ment to keep the brake dust off the rims, that doesnt bother me. im just thinking it might be better for the rotors to keep the salty crap off them during the snow months.

A service manager told me back in th e80's to not put them on because they cut down on air flow. Which could cuase the rotors to warp.

^ true. theres a reason they arent covered (like everything else) even in winter they need room to breath. wash the car more then once a year and include the rotors with that, you'll be fine. i can tell by the condition on the rims, you dont wash that often,

well, the rims were on the '97 blazer when dad bought it, he's not known for ever washing a vehicle, when the tires on these rims went bad, he swapped tires with his previous '94 S-blazer that had fairly new tires on it when it was parked. then these rims sat on the non-running '94 blazer for the next 3 years. they were so dull they looked like cast aluminum rather than a polished finish, and the brake dust residue was something else too! i worked on them by hand with some polishing compound and got them better. really im not so concerned with the brake dust residue getting on the wheels, im wanting to keep the salty crap during the winter off the brakes, as far as holding heat in, yes i agree this design will allow for alot of heat dissapation, but back in the day when we had full steel wheels (and full wheel covers to boot!) and i dont recall much of a issue if any with rotors warping. i have seen some other covers that have slots in them. if they were louverd the correct way, they could draw air out from the brakes while moving.

up to you. i cant see salt bothering the rotors, theres really no way to get spray on the inside of the rim.
