For some time I have had a problem with my front brakes clunking when I use them. About a month ago I found that I didn't have any anti-rattle clips installed. I bought a set from Rockauto which came in a set of four so I assumed that I needed all four of them... one on each end of the inner brake pad.
It made a tremendous difference. The brakes felt better than they have since the truck was new and the clunking noise was gone. It took about two days and the brakes began clunking again. I finally crawled under it yesterday to see what is up and lo and behold three of the clips are gone.
This time I went to AutoZone and bought a set of clips that came with new caliper guide pins. It came with four pins and two clips. Is there supposed to be one or two clips on each inner pad? If there is only supposed to be one clip does it go at the top or bottom? (Or does it matter?) How can I prevent them from disappearing again? I am certain that I had them installed correctly.
