I often chase friends on their dirt bikes in the mountains and desert in my Ranger, if one should brake down we would need to get it back to the staging area and my truck bed won't accommodate a bike due to the Jerry cans, spare tire and other stuff I haul.

Found a GREAT receiver hitch bike carrier on eBay for only $69.95 plus shipping, VERY well made, just punch in "motorcycle carrier" on eBay to see and order.

I'll just carry it in my bed until needed.

That sounds sweet dude, I am curious how well the hitch reliever will stand up to that. A ~250lb bike is not to scary, but I'm going to assume your not on smooth road while you are playing 'chase truck'. I hope the receiver can take the repeated torque! Let us know how much you are able to successfully put it through when the time comes!

hitch

Receiver hitches are very strong, usually bolted to the frame rails. My receiver is welded into my custom bumper which is welded to the ends of my frame rails and the bumper is a 2"x4" 1/4 wall steel.

Anyway, when I have to use it I'll be taking it easy.

I've thought about those before. It does seem nice to have and easy to load and unload the bike. I'd be worried if someone rear ends me.

I'm looking for similar products for my dual-sport motorcycle. I think I'll go with a ramp to load it in the bed.

Those work quite well. I would suggest a shim in the receiver to take up any slop between the insert and the carrier.

Play

The carrier comes with a "anti-wobble" bracket that slides against the mouth of the receiver and when tightened down takes out all the play. You can see it in the picture by scrolling down on the page.
