I have a '89 Ranger with the stock 14" cast aluminum wheels. Since 14" tires are becoming so scarce, I was thinking about finding some used 15" wheels from a newer Ranger or Explorer. While calling around to a salvage yard near me, the guy said the bolt holes will line up, but since the hub hole is larger on the newer wheels, it'll cause the studs to snap off the wheel. He doesn't recommend doing this.

Has anyone ever done this? Had any problems? I've never heard anything like this before.

Thanks in advance.

Rangers aren't hub-centric, they use a tapered acorn lug nut to center the wheel. You'll be fine.

x2, plenty of rims will fit just fine regardless of the centering hole (except if it's too small of course lol)

^--what those guys said lol

Yes, any Ranger or Explorer wheels will fit.
