I'ver recently had a new transmission put into my 94 4x4 ranger and just this week started using 4 wheel drive. Either I'm doing something wrong or something isn't quite aligned like it was pre new transmission.

Let's start with how I put it into 4x4...
Lock manual hubs
Place transmission in Neutral
4x4 (shift knob) transfer case is set to neutral to begin with
Shift over and up for 2H
Over for 4H
Down and Over for 4lo

I'll leave it at that for now. It just seems really difficult now.

The transfer case shifter probably needs to be readjusted.

There's a large bolt and a small bolt holding the shifter assembly to the side of your transmission. Loosen those bolts and adjust the shift gate until it engages correctly into all 4 positions (2HI-4HI-N-4LO).
