i bought a 00 3.0 ranger used for real cheap cause it has water in the oil, engine would run and drive fine, (did not run it for long). so i removed the heads and took them to the machene shop to test it and they said they were ok but they were worped so he cleaned them up. So i heard on here that the front cover could cause a leak also so i wanted to re seal that, i removed it and made a discovery. I found that the water pump fins were rotted really bad and they bent into the front cover causing it to wear through the cover and cause a leak in the oil. I noticed the coolant was really rusty when i bought it but i was just gonna flush it all out.I never saw this and ive been a mechanic for gm for 10 years any one else?, so i need to find a new front cover now, any suggestions where? i would ad pics but i dont know how lol.:icon_rofl:

I have seen them wear into the front of their own cover but not backward into the timing cover. I just had to replace a two month old one that went away with new blades which wore deeply into the front of the cover.

Could it have been the bearings that went away and caused the backward movement?

yea the timing cover, and the bearings on the pump are tight. crazy stuff

i seen it on a taurus several years ago but the bearings were gone
