Hey guys,

K, this is hard to explain, only owned my 89 bronco 2 for a couple days and its been driving great, and still does, the funny noise I am getting is when accelerating or down shifting, pretty much anytime the rpms increase. Mainly in 1st,2nd and 3rd gear, 2500rpm or higher and 4th seems to not do it.
It kinda sounds like when you put a auto into 1st or 2nd and you get that loud engine/fan type sound, kinda hard to explain but lets see if that makes sence to some of you.

Thanks guys!:D

sounds like your fan clutch is sticking. u will probably need to replace it. might notice a little power gain too!

hmmm, could be. Also, this doesn't happen on and off, it started yesterday and though 1st-3rd grears when driving its there as long as the rpms are up. Sounds like I'm in 4x4 mode or 1st gear everywhere.

I will check that out tho, thanks for the reply

no problem man! welcome to the bronco ii community!

the reason u probably dont notice it in 4th & 5th gear is because when u are in those gears, the rpms probably arent as high under normal driving as they are through the first 3 gears.

but odds are if it just started, that is probably what it is.

thanks for the welcome!:icon_cheers:

and ya, I guess your right, that makes sence. That would be great if thats all it is. How bad is it to drive on it when it's screwed?

i guess it depends on how annoyed you are with the massive whoooosh turbine sound it makes. lol. otherwise, theres no real issue that i am aware of...except possibly in the winter it might take longer to have heat. (if you live in a cold area during the winter)

it cetainly is a whooshing turbine sound, sounds like you nailed it! I wil look at it after.

Thanks again for all your help bud!!!

K, I went and looked at it and how can you tell it's screwed???

the fact that its so noisy tells you its screwed.

i would have a mechanic look at it though before you start tearing into it...just to be sure.

good luck! :icon_thumby:

I think I was out of it earlier. I'm guessing the fan does not move until the fan clutch engages, so starting it up cold it should not be on, if it is its ****ed.
Should of thought of that but I'm used to the one on my old 91 stang, had a flexlite[not electric] so it spun all the time.

True, but keep in mind that it could have failed so that it is always engaged (thus the fan is always fully engaged and drawing air all the time). I would think they are designed to do that as a failsafe. But I am not a mechanic. lol.
