Hey all,

I've made a couple different bumpers for my truck (92 Ranger, single cab, long bed, 2.9L). I made the first one and sold it to a friend who also has a 92 Ranger, however his is a 4.0L and an extended cab.

We went to go mount the bumper and noticed that the frame on his truck is NOT boxed (meaning it's like C-Channel) where as mine IS boxed (more like two C-Channels smashed together). The bumper wouldn't fit his rig because of where I had welded the mounts on it.

Question is...is there a reason to the different frames? I would have though that his truck with the 4.0L would have had a more boxed frame than mine with the stock 2.9L. Just curious.

Thanks

are you talking about the front or rear of the truck? From what I remember all rangers are boxed in the front and C channel in the rear.

mines c-channel,(89) but sometime in 90s(could be 92) ford added crumple zones to the frame.(thats what i guess all gen 3 have it)
so yours could maybe be a late 92 and his a early 92 and that could be the year they added it

I think there is a split in '92 where they started that crumple stuff. My '91 was C section up there.

Yep, the 91's are "C" channel the '92's are boxed
and the '93's are different again, but only boxed back to the engine crossmember, basically Ford made the '92 Rangers the way the
Explorers were the year before.

Then for '98 with the SLA suspension the frames are boxed
all the way back past the trans crossmember.
