For the past six years....I've had EGR valve problems. I was always getting trouble codes from the computer. MPG was horrible and the truck smelt gassy.
The EGR valve checked out alright and so was the pressure sensor. I checked out all vacuum lines and everything was fine.
I bought a new pressure sensor....looked just like the one on the truck except the replacement was grey in color. Installed it and was still having the same symptoms plus trouble codes.
Long story short....
1983-1984 used the black pressure sensor
1985-1986 used the grey pressure sensor
These sensors are identical expect for color. They do not interchange!
If you still have the EEC-IV system....this might help.
