Difference in shocks?

I have the opportunity to get some good shocks that were on a 98' Ranger, I had an 87' Ranger. Is there enough of a difference between the years that they wont fit? Tried searching interchangeable parts, got a lot of information on swapping out engine parts, but not much about suspension.
