I have heard that 40-45mpg in mixed driving is about normal, there are guys claiming 55-60mpg out of them on the highway. I dunno, I've always thought diesels were just kindof cool, and if I can have one that returns that kind of mileage, it sure does seem worth it. I really hope it is in decent shape.

There are LAWS on the books for ( driving conditions ) meaning it is expected of and your duty bound to drive with in reason of the environment at hand!!! Would you drive 70 mph in heavy fog?????? just because you think you can because the speed limit says 70 mph.

Would you drive 70 mph on bald tires in a heavy rain storm, just because the speed limit says you can?

So for you to be driving a heavy,fully loaded WHAT EVER in a huge truck all while in heavy wind in a 70 mph zone is the same as stated above, you could easily be ticked and sued for your stupidity, NOW don't hate me because I make sense and you didn't think about that angle.

You obvious have not driven very many different vehicles, nor do you have very much experience driving.

IMO Diesel's are WORTHLESS/LMAO.. They are loud / smelly / gutless / obnoxious. I always have to laugh my ass off when i c some short little guy driving some huge dually ( which BTW are also useless ) diesel and you know damn well that truck has NEVER seen the work it was meant for other then providing some king of weird ( look at me in my huge smelly loud truck ego stroking thing ) rofl

Some diesels are gutless, yes but what they lack in horsepower they tend to make up for in torque; ever driven a TDI Jetta? They can hold their own on the highway (provided you don't opt for a slushbox).

Diesels absolutely have their place. At our workplace we have F350s with the V10 Triton and F350s with the PSD. The PSDs return better gas mileage (13 mpg as opposed to 7-8mpg), and they have more power to get the job done. I would drive the PSD before the V10 any day. Our HD trucks are all dually trucks because they all need to be able to handle the payload of a camper.

Our nation's infrastructure relies on diesel engines. They power the generators on our freight trains (they are powered by electric engines which are charged by diesel engines, somewhat of a hybrid diesel), power our semis, buses, hmmwvs, and backup power generators. Some are loud as sin, but they are work horses. Don't be ignorant.


To the OP:
If the price is right I say go for it. It should return good fuel economy and if you keep up on maintenance it should be reliable.
