I'm looking too swap a diesel engine into a 98+ ford ranger and I would really appreciate some input an pictures!

4bt. Good luck finding a decent priced one.

Ive seen a ranger with a Kubota v2203 in it and another with a yanmar in it.

You need to try searching a little and then ask more specific questions. There are RBV diesel swaps out there ranging from 3cyl to 8cyl engines. We have no idea what you want to accomplish with this swap. More power for towing, better fuel economy, something different, waste a boatload of money... The right engine tuned properly can get you all theses things.

Well a Ranger engine swap for more power is one thing, but a diesel swap is not really practical, more of a labor of love project.
The 4bt projects are very cool, and that would be the direction to go, but............

Ranger is too heavy and boxee to get good MPG
And too light for heavy towing, so really no practical reason to go diesel, when you can just buy a diesel truck.

Bull shit. Ranger with a 4bt set up right can get great mpg.

There's a full size blazer with one that gets 30 mpg highway that was featured in a offroad magazine. All about how you set things up.

I know of two Rangers with the older VW ALH diesel engine (as found in Beetle/Golf/Jetta). There's even a thread in this forum where someone is working on an adapter plate for the manual tranny (auto to come later). Yes, lots of time/money/effort involved.

I only know 2 people who converted their trucks and wished they never did it. A lot of money and time and then the issues came up...things break and need to be repaired and replaced. I know a few people who had the diesel engines from the factory and loved them until the trucks got older and the repairs were expensive.
If you have the money and the time to do it....then do it.

I wouldn't really call that an "article on a diesel swap". It's an article on the finished vehicle with a couple of pictures and a very vague description of what was done. Really of no help at all......

Sure its not in depth, but it does offer the op a trs member who did a swap that he could possibly look into. IIRC, there was a highly in depth build thread at the time

I put a om617 Mercedes inline 5 in a '00.

Project is not finished, got side tracked with the race car, but it's in there none the less
