Die seat die!

My not make something out of scrap metal and glue a cushion on top?

If only you knew someone who could weld one up for you using metal.

I considered making it from aluminum but I wanted a more "factory" look not "race car" look. I think once I'm done coating it, doing the foam and upholstery, etc it will look somewhat like it belongs. If not, as I said... it'll just be temporary until I find a factory explorer console to replace it.

I just finished sanding it and put a coat of black primer on it. Rhino liner and black vinyl material for the arm rest will be here tomorrow. Still need to mount the radio, cup holders, and going to put a light inside. Looks like I'll be able to mount it off the existing center seat belt mounting bolts to avoid drilling any new holes in the floor.

Out of curiosity does anyone know if the little cup holder gizmo that goes under the radio bezel from the earlier rangers will be a direct replacement for my useless tray gizmo? Seems like they are interchangeable but wanna see if anyone knows for sure before I order one.

I wanna replace this thingy...

Yes.. my ‘01 came with that useless thing and I swapped it for the cup holder one.

Made some more progress. Still need 2 or 3 more coats of bed liner and I'm having a hard time getting the vinyl material for the armrest perfect in the corners. I was never any good at wrapping Christmas presents...

FYI, if your ever considering buying bedliner to actually coat your bed, don't buy rustoleum. It's working fine for my purposes and is looking good but it goes on extremely thin. I'm probably gonna end up putting 5 or 6 coats on this console! If I were actually doing a bed with it I'd end up needing gallons and gallons of this crap!

Seat covers arent perfect and the console is ghetto but it's 1,000% more comfortable now, and I actually have some storage space. Still need the cupholder piece that goes under the radio bezel and give the interior a bath.

You have a steering wheel knobbie ! Haven't seen one of those in years ! :icon_bounceblue:
Get some vent windows installed, and a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror and your all set !

I love my suicide knob!

Suicide knobs in PA are illegal with out special dispensation from the State. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is as long as they are installed properly.

As far as the seats and console. Nice work.

I think they are illegal here in NJ too. I have no idea how it could be dangerous. It doesn't block the airbag, it's not mounted solid enough that it wouldn't simply bend/twist around the wheel in an accident, if you look at mine its mounted to the inside of the wheel and i can just push a little and itll fold in. Plus it's made of rubber. :dunno:

I don't care, it makes whipping the truck around big parking lots full of kamikaze idiots alot easier.

They’re legal in most states... everyone just says/thinks they’re illegal.

I've never had a cop say anything. Then again I haven't been pulled over in 15 or more years.
