Did I just overfill my battery?

I just did a routine maintenance on my Motorcraft stock replacement battery.
I pulled the battery, put it on a flat table and pulled the fill caps.
After reading in all three manuals and watching multiple youtube vids, everyone kept saying "fill to level of the split rings." I didn't see any split rings. Then, one one of the youtube vids featuring someone at least dressed as a tech it said "fill to the bottom of the fill tubes" which is what I did. I brought the fluid level up to where the top of the fluid was just touching or a hair below the bottom of the fill tube for each cell.
Is that the correct fill level or did I fill it too much?

I used distilled water.

Never really thought about it but it sounds as if you did it perfectly. I always fill mine there and never had any problems.

Thanks Ron. I tend to overthink on the truck since I'm just a weekend mechanic type.
It took a decent amount of water -- about 10 oz -- but the cells were all immersed in fluid before I started topping it off. So, I guess there's a little extra room in there.

Ive overfilled some at work before (work is Interstate Batteries) and never had a problem after the fact.

Bingo. I love the internet and I'd even love it if it didn't have porn...

And, I remember this which got me rolling on the floor again:
> I pretty much wear a bicycle helmet with stickers on it every where I go...so yeah.
My three year old took all my cool stickers so now I make her wear the helmet all the time...

I like Interstate batteries a lot and recommend them all the time. But it seems everyone else likes them too so they get up to a 30% premium out here in CA.

Is it true that Interstate Batteries are made by Johnson Control Corp just like the Motorcraft and some other high end brands? If so, why is it better to buy the one with the Interstate label? Just curious now that I see you work there. I know there are warrantee features that differ between the rebranded flavors too which would explain price differences.
