Differential Fuel Pressure EGR

ok, what does this thing do... Can I bypass it.
My local Ford dealer.... that had to search for an hour to find the Mazda STAR-II Communicator to read it (they thought i was joking trying to read somthing that old), stated that it is supposed to read 6 volt but it reads way higher than that.

So today I pulled it our and cleaned it, it had no backplate!!!!

I do know my way around a car... but I have absolutly no clue as to what this thing does.

What does it do?

Can I bypass it?

and, why do they cost so much?!?!?!?!?:bawling:

The Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor convert a varying exhaust pressure signal into a proportional analog voltage which is digitized by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM uses the signal received from the DPFE sensor to compute the optimum EGR flow. The check engine light will come on and the EGR will not function if bypassed or unplugged.
What was the code?
The voltage range of the DPFE sensor is between .4 v and 4.5 v. The input or Reference voltage is 5 volts so I don't understand the higher voltages.

your correct about the voltage being 5 Volts

as for the codes!!!(via the school MODIS)

KOER
116-ECT or EOT sensor out of range
172-EGO Not switching, Lean Exhaust Bank 1
136-No EGO (HO2S-1) switch-Lean Exhaust Bank 2
