Decision between 235 75 R15 vs. 30 x 9.5 x 15

235s are cheaper and have more choices available. That’s what i would choose.

Brand? I’m a big cooper discoverer at3 fan. Run them on all my trucks. Love them

Least favorite? Goodyear wrangler duratracs. Have them on my ram. Regular rotations. No off-road use. 20k miles and I’m looking for replacements already.

I’ve heard good things about the falken wildpeak as well. No personal experience though.

Actually , you're looking at a three way choice, not two :

P 235/ 75 - 15 vs LT 235/ 75 - 15 vs 30 x 9.50 - 15 . ( Actually 3.5 , if somebody still offers a P 235/ 75 - 15 XL )

The significant questions are What is your requirements/ desires for weight capacity ? What are your requirements/ desires for sidewall thickness/ toughness ? The inherent size differences between 235s and 30 x 9.50 is about the same as the variation in actual dimensions amongst the various specific 235 tires . ( And the sidewall question isn't an automatic no- brainer, even for off road . Sometimes more flexible for bigger contact patches is better, sometime protection from rock damage to sidewalls is better . All depends on the specific terrain conditions where you 'wheel .


For mid size 4x4 SUV , with only occasional moderate off roading I've really liked the ( no adjective, no suffix ) Wrandlers for decades . For a period of time , I liked the Dunlop Radial Rover RV ( specifically , not the other variants ) even better , but they were discontinued long ago .

You mentioned liking the extra width and it is certainly very useful on soft or wet dirt, that extra width seems to float across it much better, where the 235 seems more to cut right into it. I also miss the extra height on the 265, they even look better.
I do however appreciate the little boost in power with the 10% better mileage (20 vs 22 ) w/ the 235
