Dealer Price Negotiations 2010 Ranger

Do Ford dealers still negotiate price for new Rangers. I'm going to buy a 2010 Sport. Ford has a $3,500 rebate through 3/31 in Socal. How much more can I expect to haggle out of them? Kelly Blue Book lists price people actually paid as exactly the same as MSRP.

Also, recommendations on buying a V6/Auto vs. 4cyl/Auto?

Thanks
Paulw

Are you going to be pulling anything, or any loads heavier than 500lbs or so? If so, then I'd get the V6...

If the dealer is offering any TV's or sh*t like that with the truck, tell them to take that off the price... they will do it, thats how I got mine... (unless you want the TV or other thing lol)

I'm sure you can haggle the price some. Its a long standing tradition in the real of buying a new car. The MSRP is really a fairly meaningless number, its just there to set an anchor point so that you think you are getting some kind of deal when you pay less.

Also make darn sure to haggle on the value of your trade in.

I got a $750 private cash offer from Ford with the 2010 Ranger brochure I requested from Ford.com. It says it is good in addition to any other public offers. I assume anyone that requests a brochure gets the same offer. I haven't bought a truck yet.

The biggest help is if you have more dealers in your area, even if you need to drive to the next town. Get a list of the exact truck you want. MAKE SURE you get the options you want trust me. Many a car buyer has regrets on options they didn't get later. Have that list in hand and go to the other dealers. Talk to them then ask for the rock bottom price they'll take for it. Then go to the next dealer then the next. I have had 3 dealers in a price war and got it at true cost from the second dealer.

Course come prepared for BS and let me talk to the manager crap too. Don't take the quick offer because most times you could have saved a lot of money.

And it's none of our business but the better your credit rating the better you'll be.

check out all the web sites like Edmund's, etc. for the msrp's, dealer cost, etc. then go in and tell him what you will give for the model truck with the options you want. let him do all the haggling. there were excerpts from a book about cars sales tactics on a recent show and this was one of the tricks to put your self on the offensive in price negotiations. also, they highly recommend taking along a couple of good friends as they will take your side and help you stand firm under the sales pressure until you get the right price for yourself. good luck!!

The dealer should do what ever it takes to sell a Ranger. Around here 2010 Rangers have been sitting on dealers lots since October, but then again unemployment is 13% here too. I would go to Edmunds.com and configure all your options and it will give you a good starting point to negotiate. Salespeople don't like when you do your homework first on the internet and come in with all your facts & figures.

thanks for the advice. I purchased a 2010 truck tonight. Went with a 4.0L/auto. Negotiated well below invoice. I tried hard to get the $750 direct mail incentive, but it didn't come with my brochure. I made a few phone calls to Ford incentive department, but couldn't get it. It must be granted at random.

To those thinking of buying a new vehicle, follow the advice above. Start with a low offer. Don't be afraid to ask for something. At the very end, I asked for a bedliner, putting my checkbook back in my pocket and getting ready to leave without a sale. Salesman came back a few minutes later and said OK to it.

In this economy I would not expect to pay a penny over dealer invoice for the Truck (before rebates) If they wont deal try another dealership.
