OK, updates for any/all concerned:
Definitely not the major relays, swapped 'em around and no change. Can hear the fuel pump hum at key turn. Starter motor is engaging and turning. Battery is obviously holding a charge. All of the fuses are intact in both boxes.
Will try to find a spare plug on my bench tonight and check spark w/it tomorrow. Presuming that I'm getting spark, is it possible for a short in the engine compartment to damage the fuel pump in such a way for the pump to still self-prime, but not deliver fuel, while sparing the relay?
I'm open to the pump being the problem, but the way the engine cut out just didn't feel like fuel starvation--even if the pump suddenly died, carryover pressure should have tapered off, instead of that sudden stop.
Or is there another possible solution? Wondering if the vacuum system is required for starting, and if the vac line on the back of the HCV ingested anything if that would cause the problem.
Thanks,
Matt
