Has anyone found a dead pedal that fits properly in the final generation Rangers? I have a 2003 FX4 Level II that I bought new and have been spicing up the interior over the last year or so to make it feel like a newer vehicle. My wife's 2006 VW GLI has a great dead pedal and I wondered if there's one that will work well and fit the Ranger without too much modification.

If so, post pics! Ranger on.

What exactly is a "dead pedal"?

Here's a pic of a good one...

It's a foot rest for the left side....it keeps the carpet from getting all worn out where your left foot normally rests. It's also more comfortable than the trying to rest your foot on the inside of the wheelwell. Here's a good picture of one in a VW or Audi, they have the best ones that I've actuall used.

Oh, those things.

I have one sitting in a drawer in one of my tool boxes somewhere. I think it came out of a Freestyle or something.

I've never really used one myself. My cars have another pedal about halfway between the brake and the foot rest.

If I put a hand brake in my first gen I want to put one in it. Post up if you figure anything out.

^^^ That one does too.

Yeah, but I can't get my foot between the clutch and the parking brake pedal.

the point of a dead pedal is to help break the habbit of resting your foot on the clutch, alot of people do it, and the tiny bit of preasure will glaze the hell out of your flywheel over time. A friend of mine used to do it and eat clutches every 30k or so.

The problem with putting one in a ranger is the parking break, all the cars i have seen with a dead pedal have a hand activated parking break and that frees the space up. So without alot of fab work im not sure its do-able.

what you could do... but im not sure there is room for this either, is go to a bone yard and pull a manual pedal box and fab up something that allows you to add a 4th pedal hanging dead off the existing pedal box but i wouldnt recoment that for a few reasons.

one being in a panic situation are you sure your going to locate the clutch effevtivley,
two it only makes it more complicated to work under the dash
and finally i personally think it would look extremely strange

dont see the point in needing one in a ranger. I dont need one, i can see in larger vehicles where there's more room, but its so cramped in the ranger i just Dont see how it will be useful at all
