Twice in the last week I have gone out to start my 2000 Ranger and nothing. No lights, no horn, no start. Both times I have not driven it for over 24 hours before the battery goes dead. The first time I got a jump. The second time, today, I called AAA for a jump. The AAA guy put his meter on the battery, jumped me off and had me do a series of things while he watched the meter. When he was done, he gave me a printout that said everything was OK. Incidentally, I programed the stereo clock again to the correct time.

Later tonight I went out to crank the truck and ran it about 10 minutes, hoping to avoid a dead battery tomorrow. The clock still had the correct time but I noticed it was flashing about once every other second with the truck shut off. The stereo is not on. This is not normal. With the truck turned off the clock is normally off unless someone pushes the clock button on the stereo.

Anyone have an idea what is going on? Can the LED clock display run my battery down? Is the flashing a sign of something?

i hope somebody has an answer as i'm having a similar problem. on my radio, the "MODE" switch light won't turn off with the rest of the radio. my radio is hard wired to the battery and i hate pulling the fuse every time then having to reset all the time, station, and sound settings every time i get in it! :icon_confused:

If the tow driver was testing only with the truck running, he/she was only testing the charging system. Testing the battery is done with the engine off. Have it checked again. You probably have a bad or old battery that wont hold a charge.

If the battery tests good and the charging system checks out ok, I would check for a parasitic drain somewhere. If I don't pop of my face plate each evening in my truck ,especialy when it's cold, my battery will drain.

The AAA guy had me run the truck 5 mins. Rev to 2000 RPM. Idle. Turn on the lights. Rev to 2000 RPM. Idle. Turn off the lights. Idle. Kill the engine and then waited about 3 minutes while hi tester continued to check the truck with the key off. Results: No problems. I guess for now, since I am jobless for two weeks, I will go take out the fuse for the stereo.
