Dave's '93 Ranger Build


It was a good time, I did floor it coming out of that but the passenger side of the truck is spotless lol. I only have 28" street tires otherwise I would have pushed it through that puddle, but I was alone and didnt want to push my luck ahahaha
 
Took the truck into the mountains again, but it was just a toyhauler this time. Went dirtbiking up at Stave Lake. Had my bike, my uncles bike and my dads bike all in the back, ~1000 lbs in the back and the area had lots of hills. My 3.27 gears did NOT like that ahahaha. Otherwise it was good, got the truck real dirty on the way out :P



 
So the other day at work, a customer scrapped a set of Goodyear Wrangler Authority A/T tires with like 60% left on all 4, no damage whatsoever. Theyre 245/75/R16 which is like a 30" tire. So today I ran down to pick a part cause any steel rim is $8 a piece. I was there for an hour, managed to find 2 with the right bolt pattern. One is from an 02 Rondevouz, the other from a 95 Intrepid. I work at a tire shop but I was too impatient to wait untill thursday to mount these, so I did them in the driveway XD Gonna balance them thursday. I think they look good. Before the truck sat pretty level, now Im 3" higher in the rear





Gonna rock this stance for a week or 2, spent my last $18 on rims
 
So I got paid and went pack to pick a part. I went to get 2 more rims (from a 95 Sebring) and look for an Edge model cupholder armrest. While looking for that cupholder armrest, I took a random glance inside like 90 or 91 bronco 2 (one of the last models made) and I did a double take. The hard to find (atleast to me) single 4x4 manual shifter with the column shift automatic. The bezel is just what I need, and I grabbed the whole shifter as well. The one I made is pretty good, but I made the handle too far ahead of the pivot point and it had excessive shifter throw. Plus it had no side differentiation for neutral. I cant wait to throw that in. Also grabbed 2 centercaps for the rear rims. Pics later, Im at a grad thing right now
 
Bought new rear shoes and drums... $120 well spent. The backs were alteast 6 years old, drums so out of round the whole truck shaked if you braked going faster than 60 kmh. And on top of that, the drivers side e brake cable started sticking couple weeks ago. Not enough to lock up the wheel like the other side did when I got it, but enough to cause the horrible mileage I got out of my last fill up (A whole tank burned in 240 kms, regular 450)

I also bought one aerosol can of dupli color bed armour intending to do the rails only, but I got carried away. Now I need to buy another can





This bug comitted suicide by landing on the rail...sucker!


Bought me some 5% tint for the rear window, gonna do that tomorrow
 
Well today I painted the bumper pad black, looks tons better


Then went up sumas with a couple of the BC Ranger Club guys








The truck feels pretty reliable, which is good cause this weekend Im running down to Olympia in it to strip a car, about 3 hours one way. But Ive noticed its a little bit hard to start when its hot. Im gonna borrow some tamper proof torx sockets and see if cleaning the MAF helps that, and clean the IAC as well. If its still being difficult, I will try some injector cleaner and beyond that Im out of ideas
 
Washed the truck today, and painted the front bumper pad as well. NExt item up for paint is the flares




Also picked up some injector cleaner, hopefully it helps my hot start thing
 
So, my A4LD is packing it in. It randomly drops into neutral if your under 1500rpm. So I got an M5OD with the clutch master and pedal assembly for $200, and I got a clutch kit for $215. Im out of money, but I still need a new slave, flywheel, and starter. So the truck has broke the $1000 mark, haha.

Its been awhile... The trans swap is done, and working flawlessly :) Everywhere I found a how to, said that you have to change computers or else you get a high idle. I didnt, I made sure to plug the old vacuum line and it idles nicely at 800 rpm, but I lowered it to about 650.

Also bought some alcoas, and new 31s. Took it wheeling with my buddy and his FX4 LVL2 today, so heres that (Pic dump)















My buddy got his truck stuck, and after I pulled him out I tried to get mine stuck, but it wouldnt play ball






 
So Im building some sort of tire gate. I moved up to 32s, and got a full size spare from a junkyard. So I started with a B2 carrier from the junkyard for $40. Once I cut the hinges off, I was able to see how I was gonnna do it. Started with this 2" receiver end from Princess Auto for $14.


I notched out the bumper. That brace underneath will be boxed, and plated, and the receiver will be attached to it



Had to trim the receiver a touch


And it sits something like this



So Then I added this stuff


To this thing


And Then tacked the receiver to the boxed bracket (no pics)

Stuck a bit of stock in the receiver to make sure all is square

So I added this little thingy, to help spread out the load onto the bumper a bit



Gave the support some support



Then made some hinge blocks (apparently those didnt get photographed) And stuck the carrier onto what I had. It swings, and it did hold a tire, but it needs to be stronger. the current weak point is the bumper itself flexing. So while I thought I could get away with the one bar straight up, I will have to go across and down on the other side. The goal with this thing is it will be easily removable, almost as easy as the stock tailgate. So a couple of receiver ends with a couple hitch pins seems like the way to go. My angle grinder started billowing smoke, so no progress for awhile :P Heres how it sits
