Hey I'm in the middle of a 302 swap and I figure while I have the motor out I should fix my heater box which has the lower aluminum a/c tube blown out. I guess I need to take it out to fix that since it broke right where it goes in to the box. Now am I going to need to take my dash apart to pull the heater box out from the other side of the firewall?

Nope, You can get to it without pulling the dash. I did it on my '89 and took like 15 mins from start to finish. Now if you had a '95+ youd have to pull the dash.
Nice on the 302 swap by the way. I want to do a 5.0 swap in my '01 but the wiring is stopping me from doing it.

ah thanks and good to hear!

and yeah i originally was gonna do an efi 5.0 swap but the wiring didnt look like any fun so its carbed for me!

oh also, it looks like theres some weird foamy sealer-goo around the box. is this normal and will it be a pain to get the box un-stuck?

To get the engine side of the firewall box off ANY 1983-94 Ranger/Explorer/Bronco2 is a matter of FOUR nuts.

They are eiher 10mm or 7/16 (11mm) three are on the engine side,
one on the inside of the cab above the passenger side footwell.

After you have those four nuts off some prying to unstick the weather
seal and it comes right off....

BTW, on an '83-88 I recomend adding a piece of screen to the
firewall before reinstalling the box.

The slotting in the cowl allows leaves into the cowl and into the
heater box where you get to hear them buzzing against the blower
fan (a most annoying noise).
