Dash cam SD card problems (long and complicated story) need help

Wait... Something about fixing my SD card comes to mind....

But let's also stare deeply at the glory of my explorer console that color matches my seats first... The passenger seat is filthy cause my dad sat in it after sitting in bay mud while crabbing.
I’m sure that also has a unique aroma.

what ryhmes with aroma?

Face it Dude, the card is toast...start over.

I understand cards can get corrupt or whatever but I put it in my phone and it still transfers files and reads them? I just transferred files from my phone and it works? It's only not recording in the camera?

what about the contacts where the card meets the buss? you said camera that lays in your truck (24x7x365?). See where this might be going?

I can't tell if you're joking... If not explain better please.

The contacts on the camera could have some shmu/corrosion on them on not be connected all the way.

poor connection = no data transfer

What Roert42 was mentioning. If the camera is sitting out in the weather a lot, the contacts could be crusted/corroded. May not be it but worth a look. If it's a typcial camera (go-pro), you can clean the contacts with a toothbrush and some baking soda. Just don't get things to wet and give it a good chance to dry out before you plug it in.

UPDATE: try rubbing alcohol and a q-tip first. Skip the BS if that works.

Most of those cards and the boards ds they mate to have gold plated contacts to prevent that. Even when it does corrode, gold oxide is a decent conductor.

what, if anything, did you wind up doing about this?

Well I'm still kinda fighting with it but I got a USB-C micro SD card reader for my phone instead of sticking it in the actual phones SD slot. Formatted both cards with the phone using the card reader and both seem to be working fine...

I keep pulling them out to check but so far so good. I think the phone was automatically doing something to the cards when I put them in the slot that made the camera funky but with the card reader adaper it's reading them as mass storage and not screwing them up?

Dunno if it screws up again I'll let you know

Well this gizmo seems to have solved all the issues. Both cards read fine and haven't needed to be reformatted since.
