...and about 65 top end speed with that motor/gearing. back in the day you could afford to set up a truck to do serious pulling with. today the best you can do is check the "diesel" option, but there 5 g or more. we had a '77 3/4 with the C6 full time 4x4 and 4.10 gears. it would pull anything and was a great plow truck. got a consistant 9mpg.

Geez, And I was disappointed by my overall mileage of 17.6mpg on
my trip to Wyoming and back....

seems about right to me. Thats what the '94 Super Duty 460 with an 11 yard aluminum dump bed I drive occasionally gets.

And you wonder why you have the "greenies" picking on you at the gas station!:tease::rolleyes::taunt:

:joke::sorrysign:

Actually, this thing suprised me with top end speed. It'll bury the 85MPH speedo in a hurry.

But yeah, im not really bitching about the mileage, it more then makes up for it with raw power. It will litrally pull anything. But the mileage does suck :P

I averaged 7.6 mpg with the 460/C6/4.10 combo in my parents 27' motorhome last summer, sadly it was about what I expected.

Hahahahahahaha!!

YEah, running a 2.5 everyday, even a 3.0 feels like it can tow just about anything. I'd kill myself with that 400!:icon_twisted: At least I get to play with a 460 every week at work when I do the generator test.

Yeah, i drive a 300 Inline every day.....so that 400 is a nice treat to drive once in a while.

I wish my 3.5 floppy worked....i post pics of the truck. Its an ugly, loud, beast. But its a blast to drive.

Headers and duals will help a little, but I doubt you'll ever see 10 mpg unless you're going downhill with the engine shut off. :icon_twisted:

My Grandpa bought a 1976 F-350 way back in early 80's for hauling a 5th wheel camper. He just retired and him and Grandma went all over North America with it. It was 2wd, 390 C6 with A/C. He said it got 10 MPG no matter if it was light, pulling the 5th wheel, up hill, down hill-- or what ever.

Side story. They were in Arizona once and going up a big ass hill with the trailer. Apparently a few days prior, he felt the truck was losing power- getting sluggish. Anyway, going up the hill the truck kept slowing down. Suddenly the engine got quite and then a HUGE BANG !!! Scared the crap out of Grandma. The muffler plugged up then blew apart. He said it had lots of power then. Thats the only problem he ever had with the truck. As of the late 90's, I still saw the truck running around the South Okanagan in BC.

It does have headers and duals :)

Wow....

And I thought our dumps were bad.... looks like we're gettin pretty good mileage out of 'em...

89 F-350 with bored over 460, 4.10ls, 2wd dually, steel dump body, HD 5-speed manual

94 F-350 with 460, 4.10ls, 2wd dually, steel dump body, HD 5-speed manual

Both get 8mpg around town, 9 on the highway. Only good news is that it's empty, full, or overloaded, mileage doesn't change.
