A few months ago when I was trying to tighten my tension belt pulley I think I put a bit too much force on the alternator bracket...the top piece that holds the alternator in place (not the adjustable section as that is steel) is aluminum...and, for some strange reason, I only had the very bottom bolt holding it in place...
So the other day I heard a squealing from the alternator and that usually tells me the belt is sloppy...and it was...I went to tighten it today and noticed a bit too much play in it...well, the bottom bolt section had completely broken off...only thing holding the alternator in place was the adjustment bracket...giving it just enough play to allow the belt to loosen up...
Fortunately, I was able to move the bottom bolt to where the missing bolt should have been...hopefully that holds it in place till I can either find a new bracket or have one made up out of steel...
Anyone happen to have a spare? It's getting harder to find these things...will check NAPA and others to see if they can order them in...
