it used to do it only until i hit 15 mph which didnt bother me but now its pretty much at any speed. it only does it some days. but when it does it usually only does it when im under power. if im coasting it usually stabilizes. do i need a new cable?
i've always been told a dancing needle is caused by a kinked speedo cable, but if it started doing it recently without any work done on it, i want to say you're missing a few teeth on the speedo gear in the tranny, and it slips a little and drops, then catches it and speeds up... i'd pull the cable out of the tranny and inspect the gear, if that doesn't work, replace the cable
When I first saw this...I thought...someone in a bathing suit doing the Tango...
OK...my Zuki had a similar problem...my Ranger doesn't...the Zuki was the cable...it would bounce for a bit at certain speeds...and like Weezl said, it may be the gear...but I ended up just replacing mine eventually because I got a CEL...the cable (speed) is monitored by the computer and makes adjustments to the fuel/air mixture accordingly...when it bounces the computer gets confused...
Not sure if the 93s have this, but if you have a CEL then you might want to get a new cable (or junkyard)...if they are not linked to the computer then I'd say there is not an urgent need...but it can be very annoying...
it can also be a precursor to speedo failure... i had my cable snap on me on my mustang, and it was bouncing around for 6 months or so before it broke... it's a huge PITA driving with no speedo, especially when you're trying to max out your car...
