Is the tuff anuff for a 302, 6" lift 315's and a driver with a heavy foot?

315's =....35??

Here are the mods you need to do in order to run certain tire sizes on a Dana 35, with the axle locked and a powerful engine:

38s: D44 outers, and 760x joints with welded clips.

35s: 760x joints with welded clips, Jeep hubs

33s: 297 joints with full-circle retainers, Warn manual locking hubs

For a 31-spline 8.8:

33s - 40s: Bolt the tires on.

38s is starting to get where I'd be leary of the ring gear, although some here do run them, and I've seen no reports of broken gears yet. Leadfoots need not apply though.

I would stick with 35" tires if you'll be playing rough.

Do the Jeep hubs and Spicer 5-760s with full-circle clips (or welded caps) on the D35 and you should be good on a BII.

all the gears i had occasion to tear up is from the missed chunks of axleshafts and spiders....but you would be surprised how long the gears last even when boogered....i am.

not sure what power level your at, but 300+ hp and heavy foot require alot of radius arm maintainence and beam replacements, neither of which was too troublesome till very recently because the damn d35's are laying all over in the yards, unfortunatly they are all getting to be rotted salt infested junk here in the rust belt. this was pushing me to look into beefed and modded d50/44 units for long term use. d35 isnt too bad an axle really.

at the very least tack weld the caps in or you will blow thru alot of axle shafts.

it goin to be a stock 302 onley with alum intake mild cam and a 650 or 600 holly. I might go with a 4.0. Yes this winter its gettin sased dana 44 and prolly a nine inch. axles wont be locked or any thing im just lookin to do a mounth-two mounth bulid. than tare down this winter and sas it.
