I am going to be putting in leveling coils some time soon and while I am at it I am going to replace the axle pivot bushings and radius arm bushings. Would I need to use a ten ton press for the pivot bushings or could I use a c-clamp and a piece of pipe? And also what are the torque specs for the raius arm bushings and the pivot bushings? What kind of bolts should I use to replace the old ones? Anything helps.

And by the way, how do I determine the right torque? ex. torque to 180-220 ft.lb. How do I chose what torque to use? 180, 187, 219, 200?

the old bolts are going to be metric.. get 10.9 metric bolts equivalent to grade 8 bolts. the bushings you are able to press them in with a hammer.. an as far as torque i just tighten them as tight as i can get them.

bump. Im curious how to get em out as well

Torch!!!

Ive heard everyone just uses a torch to blast them out.

yup torch ... melt the rubber an they pop right out. no hassle.

there is a lip on the pivit bushings that i bent inward with a chizel all the way around then i was able to pound the old one out with a hammer. to put the new one in i used a c-frame clamp like one used for ball joints since i did not wana hammer on the bushing and possible damage it. once the new one was in i "staked" the excess like the original. hope this helps ya it was fairly simple.

Yeah thanks that's alot easier than torchin them I think. I will be attempting this in about a week a let you guys know how it went.

I drilled about 10 holes in the rubber wiht a 1/4 inch bit. they came right out then. Gettin the new ones in was a bitch tho real pita. I used a hammer and a block of wood on the new bushing so i wouldnt smash it
