Dana 35 - knuckle/spindle stud thread pitch

Why didn't you ask me about a month ago when I had it apart? It's common pitch (not fine thread). But I don't know the actual size. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 7/16" or 10mm or 3/8" or 8mm.

I did remember at one point. Even have a bag or two of NOS Ford replacement studs somewhere. They’re probably keeping my spare CB antenna mounts company since I haven’t seen those lately either…

I just pulled mine off today. I noticed as the nuts were stuck in the socket I could tap them on the tie rod adjuster sleeve and then thread the nuts onto the bolt to pull them out of the socket.

They are metric, takes a 15mm socket.

I thought I remembered using a 15mm socket. But wasn't sure if it was the right size or the closest metric equivalent to a standard size. If they take a 15mm socket, I'm sure they are m10 x 1.5 threads.

By the way. The original nuts are self-locking with a deformed thread inside. But I use blue Loctite on them anyway.

LOL … I am trying to run a thread chaser down them and it isn’t going well… I started questioning if it is metric or not.

count the threads and try a m10 nut.


i used k truck studs on my ttb 35....same as the ones on my drum brake 44 in the bronco when i tried to use k20 spindles and brake plates....


that didnt work out the way i had hoped for.

15mm was the only socket in my trusty socket set that fit them. I had to buy a special 15mm impact socket because my 3/8 impact sockets skip that one.

It's Ford, I don't put it by them to use a 15mm hex on a 3/8-24 thread... but that said I do have a knuckle in my shop without a spindle on it and it is definitely 10mmx1.25 took the thread gauge to it and everything, a 3/8-24 nut did not thread onto the stud.
