Dana 35 IFS question.

Ok, so to my understanding the TTB Dana 35 is a high pinion reverse cut unit and the IFS Dana 35 is a low pinion standard cut unit. My question is does the cut affect actual direction of rotation? The reason I ask is I have a 1354 transfer case out of a 94 ranger, will it work with a later model IFS dana 35?

Reverse cut/standard cut and high/low pinion will affect rotational direction. They ultimately spin the same direction.

The ring gear just sits on different sides of the pinion depending on the cut as far as I understand

No, it's on the same side of the pinion, the difference is 'standard-cut' puts the pinion below the axle centerline, where 'reverse-cut' puts the pinion above it (if it was on opposite sides of the ring gear, it would also spin the wheels in the opposite direction).

The reason for the two styles of cut is: 'reverse' gears are specifically designed for use in a front axle, whereas 'standard' gears are normally for the rear axle.
Standard gears are often seen in front axles as well, however they are not as strong while driving in a forward direction (OTOH, 'reverse' gears up front are not as strong while you are backing up).
