I rebuilt my front end a while back. I meticulously followed the Ford instructions for re-attaching the carrier to the TTB. At least I thought I did. I filled it up with the recomended gear oil after torquing the bolts to specs, it soon started leaking.

There is a nut and bolt vertically oriented on the rear of the TTB, the channel for the bolt was compromised by corrosion. Could this be the cause of the leak? Do I need to replace the carrier?

I was thinking the only fix would be to buy a rebuilt Dana 35 carrier and reinstall it according to the Ford manual. If so, does anyone know the minimum amount of components that need to be removed to effect the change out of the carrier?

I will attempt to attach a photo of said bolt to aid in your diagnosis.

On mine the abuse taken by the beams has cause just enough deformation to cause a slow drip from the carrier. If yours is bad enough it could cause a leak. Other than that it means you probably will have to try again with yours. Did you use a gasket or RTV?

JB Weld that thing!

I think you need a new one Dude. Just get one at a wrecking yard.

I used RTV. Cleaned it with solvent. Placed the RTV only where the manual specified.

ie.
8. Clean all traces of gasket RTV sealant from the surfaces of the carrier and support arm and make sure the surfaces are free of dirt and oil. Apply a bead of Silicone Rubber RTV sealant D6AZ 19562-AA (clear) or -BA (black) (ESB-M4G92-A and ESE-M4G195-A) or equivalent, in a bead between 6.35-9.53mm (1/4-3/8 inch) wide. The bead should be continuous and should not pass through or outside the holes.

NOTE:
The carrier must be installed on the support arm within five minutes after applying the RTV sealant.

It's purple metal flake and flourescent pink. Easy inspection in low light.

Does the book actually say 6.35mm!? Lmfao thats rediculous, one decimal place is rediculously small in mm scale, let alone TWO.

Also, that makes me think - I should paint my shit up all yellow and orange or something lol

I'm doing tractor yellow on my shafts :D
