will bad alignment wear out ball joints. and what symptoms should i look for for bad ball joints

Jack the truck up so the weight is off both wheels. If you can wiggle the tire 1/32" with the lug nuts torqued properly, you have at least one bad ball joint.

I would think that bad alignment could wear ball joints prematurely, but I am not entirely sure. It seems logical, but not necessarily true.

I have bad alignment and a bad ball joint, among other things. Don't know if one lead to the other or if a 3rd thing caused both. For a ball joint, from what my friend showed me, if you can move it easily around it's bad.

to check your ball joints,

jack up the truck, under the beam, till the tire is 4-5 inches off the ground.

then take fence post/jack handle etc and put it under the tire like this

O_______

then have someone lift up on the fence post, and watch for play in your balloints.
