what is requried to put the dana 35 and ford 8.8 out of a 1993 ford explorer into a 1986 ford ranger

For the rear axle you will have to put new leaf spring mounts ontop of the axel, cut the sway bar mounts off, change out the rear axles u-joint flange to fit your smaller universals, (this would be the time to upgrade as i did in this case), if youve got a lift i would weld your new mounts to the angle the drive shaft will be coming to your yolk. for the front its pretty much take out bolt on kind of thing, some say to shorten your front drive shaft 1" or 2" but i seemed to not have any problems even at full flex but ill let someone else comment on that if im wrong. these axels will be about 1.5" wider then your origional axels. so other then that just check the fluid, paint em up nice and you should be good to go:beer:

For the front D35, you'll also need the tie rods and such since your current steering setup is too narrow.

And speaking of lifts, if you have the drop plate style instead of bracket lift, you definitely want extended bumpstops since the plate will punch a hole in your D35 under suspension compression.

if you take the rear flange off of the exploere driveshaft and swap it for the one on your driveshaft it will work that is what I did.

i just did my d35 in to my 88 ranger, i did not have to cut down by front drive line, i do have a 6'' susp... lift, if its not lifted u might have to. the swap is verey easy.

well im taking the 4.0 liter engine trans and transfer case with it does that make any difference

In that case you're fine. Just use the driveshaft from the donor.
