I have the Dana 28 in my 86 bronco 2. It has a carrier break and I need to find a new carrier to upgrade into so I can upgrade to 4.10. I have a Ford 9 inch rear I plan on picking up at has 4.11 in it. I have searched the web and can not find a carrier that would allow over a 3.45 gear ration in the Dana 28.

get a dana 35

A Dana 35 is a nice upgrade, and easy to do. But if you want to stick with the 28, look for a 2.3 4x4 Ranger in a junkyard and pull the diff. They usually have 4.10's. A couple years ago I scrapped the Dana 28 that came with 4.10 in my Ranger from the factory because I figured no one would want it.

BobbyWalter is absolutely right.

The D35 is better in every way except ground clearance, and even then not a whole lot. 1995-1997 Rangers will have better brakes. Radius arms will swap, it's a bolt-in affair. And 4.10's are easy to find for them, maybe not quite as much from the factory though. All TTB D35's use the 3.55+ carrier, no breaks.

The biggest reason I am not looking for a Dana 35 or something else is because I just put new axle shafts in and new ujoints in the Dana 28. I’m now invested into the axle and don’t want to waist that money. Otherwise I would.

If you want, I've got a complete Dana 28 center assembly with 4.10 gears. Gear teeth are lightly-moderately worn. It needs a complete master rebuild kit, as the old bearings and seals were destroyed when I got it. I disassembled it, removed the bad bearings and seals, and cleaned it completely, so it's ready for rebuild.

I was going to install it in my '88, but then that truck got squashed in an accident, and I don't need it for the '97 I got as a replacement.

I'm thinking maybe $50 + shipping from 83274. PM me if interested.

Many automatic transmission equipped B2s & 2.9 rangers had 4.10 D28s axles. Only the '89 2.3 4x4 is guaranty to have a 4.10 D28. With the 1st gen ('83-'88) 2.3 4x4s its a crapshoot as to what gears they had in them. I've seen then with 3.45s, 3.73s & 4.10s factory haha.
