How much wear is acceptable on Dana 28 spindles where the bearing collars index on spindle? I was taught that if you can catch a finger nail on them then they need replacement. Thoughts?
Thank you Ken

That was what I was taught as well.

I would concur. In a pinch you can clean them up with sandpaper and continue using it... sometimes it's hard to find a good used one and new ones are stupid expensive.

I've also heard of a way to bandaid when you can't find a replacement... clean up well, take a center punch around where the bearing seats all over and go to town somewhat even and let the mushrooming around the center punch take up the gap... some loctite wouldn't hurt in that situation... not ideal of course...

Thanks for the advice all. I'm going to do just that with the center punch as it's worked when I was racing cars a couple times. Thanks again all of ya.

I'd have never thought of that. Might have to try it soon myself.

I guess it's kinda like knurling a piston to effectively increase diameter?
