I ran across a guy selling a Dana 25 from a 1950's cj2a. I can't find the width anywhere online. I was noticing everyone on here is talking about dana28 and up. I have a 302 with a c4. Would this axle be ok? Should I find one newer? When I searched on here it would only allow the Dana and left out the 25.I just got a message and he said it was 4.88 gears. I was hoping for 3.73 or 4.10. I'm not sure what side should be the short side I'm guessing the drivers or does it matter? It's a red right now but hope to convert it to 4x4, even if it's later on.

I believe that is what we run in our 23T altered. Not very strong... drum brakes... pig on the RH side. We just belt drive them and belt slips before it breaks. I am not sure on the width... and I'm nowhere even remotely close to measure.

IMHO... I would pass for your Ranger.

Hard pass... that axle is only useful in its original application. Look for something a lot more modern.

Quite a few people out there using Jeep D30 and D44 axles for Ranger conversions (MJ/XJ/TJ/YJ etc vehicles) and I'm sure you could use JK axles too but they have a different bolt pattern.

https://www.jeeptech.com/axle/d25.html, very narrow, '40s tech - good for a small 4 cyl, not so much a V-8.

Dana 25 is most likely passenger drop (passenger side is short side); and while it isn't critical that you get a driver's drop (std for Ford), you need a passenger drop transfer case if you go with at passenger drop axle (more Jeep parts). And the install gets more challenging as Ford designed the Ranger for driver's drop and you would to have to undo a bunch of their work and redo it - exhaust, etc.

They belong right here....

I'm positive the drive belt was slipping like crazy.
